Green Day  (midori no hi)  National Holiday

Green Day (midorinohi) is an annual holiday which traditionally marks the beginning of "Golden Week". Three national holidays land within one week of each other. Many people take a few days off or even vacation abroad. It is impossible to get hotel or airline reservations to or from Japan during this brief ... "Golden Week" of holidays.

Green Day, April 29th, was the former Emperor Hirohito's birthday (now known as, Emperor Showa). Since 1988 this holiday has been known as Green Day in recognition of his love of nature and the many trees which he planted throughout Japan during his lifetime. (by Paul Abramson)
